This was so good to think about and put onto paper.

Deciding what I want my life to be like is very hard. What I want to do and what I can realistically do both health and time wise are very different things. I should also have included money wise too. Maybe I should try creating two vision boards, 1 for my current realistic life and 1 for my dreamlife. Then maybe I can combine them into 1 that is mostly realistic but has some stretch goals to work towards that would improve my life? Do you think that would be helpfull, or should we only do 1 vision, and it is whatever we choose?

    1. Jessica Fisher

I think making two is a great idea, especially if you intend to merge the two as much as possible. Remember this will evolve over time.

Keep in mind, that it’s okay to dream big if the input goals are doable. For instance, I might say I want to save $1,000 this month for a particular purpose. If I don’t earn more than 1k in a month, obviously that’s not realistic. It’s a dream, but one that can’t possibly come true as things are today. But I can make plans to earn more or I can extend the timeframe of the goal to accommodate this. The inputs (what I earn or how often I will save) are the things that need to be realistic.

Last night I filled out my wants on the vision board.

After listening to Jessica’s chat this morning, I went through each want and put three bright pink marker dots and added doable input (action) steps to achieve those wants. For example: I’m always saying I’d like to read more books. So the action step I’m going to take is to begin reading during my lunch hour.

Overall what I’m seeing is that I need to schedule these steps into my days. I’ll need to commit to set aside some time each day/week to: declutter, exercise, market my business and tackle a small remodel project.

Besides the satisfaction of working to accomplish those things – do you have any suggestions for a reward I might treat myself to at the end of each week for “plugging away” at these tasks?

I think the two questions you can ask yourself are what size of reward fits your budget and what motivates you? This could be your financial budget or your time budget but it needs to be something that you would look forward to! For an unusual example, I’m sewing my daughter’s wedding dress. Normally sewing is a therapeutic activity for me, but this has been very stressful. Last week when it got to a point where it was ready to mark the hem but I had a few days before she could try it on, I pulled some cotton fabric from my stash and sewed myself a cute pair of pajamas.

Yes – good suggestions, thank you. : )

And hurrah for new pjs! That was a great way to treat yourself.

Great way to approach it, Jenn!

While working on this exercise today, I kept last year’s vision page handy and noticed that I had made more progress on the measurable goals. That makes sense, but it isn’t something that occurred to me while I was setting my vision last year!

    1. Jessica Fisher

I love that. Progress and new ways of thinking about it. Be sure to date those pages!

Anyone else feel like a deer caught in the headlights when asked what they want life to look like? It’s been amazing to me to think about Jessica’s suggestion to focus on input goals vs. outcomes. I’ve been working really hard towards my outcomes, but haven’t ever given any consideration to what was truly in my power to make them happen. Also, I’ve been working with outcomes that were essentially based on avoiding what I didn’t want. I’m super excited to start thinking about what I want life to look like and the empowering steps I can create to make that vision a reality. I’m working on my vision board today!

Yay! I love hearing about this mindset shift. When we focus on what WE CAN DO, it really does change things a bit. Can’t wait to hear how this goes!
