    I have a question, are the grocery staples checklists food that you already have or food for the recipes you plan on making?

      This checklist is going to be your base grocery shopping list going forward. Knowing what you’ll need and plan on using can help you take advantage of sales and build a standard grocery list for those weeks that feel wild. We’ll be making meal plan templates as we go so this checklist will be helpful in walking those out.

      An inventory of food on hand can be helpful in using what you have and knowing what not to buy, but isn’t part of this assignment.

    I am using the grocery stapes checklist to build grocery lists in my Walmart grocery app. Using the same category titles as the worksheets, I’m able to create ready-made lists in my grocery app so that I can easily restock the items that are low in my pantry. Thanks for the great tool that’s going to save me time and sanity in the kitchen!

      Yay! I didn’t even know Walmart’s app let you organize that way. Very cool.

    I am still a bit confused by the staples checklist. Are these.. snacks? To have on hand. Or things we would always like to have around, like bananas and milk? This is the not basis for the meals I
    Will be making, correct?

      A lot of the work this month is to plan some default meal plans for each meal of the day. We’re also creating a default grocery list to go with. That’s what the staples checklist is: a grocery list that you can work from as a base. It may change from week to week depending on specifics.

      So, you’re working backward… making the list of meals you know your people will eat and then creating a checklist of what you’ll need to make those foods.

      Hannah, I like to think of the grocery staples checklist as the things I want to regularly have on hand, the things that I want to always have in my pantry/freezer/fridge, so I would include milk and bananas. Jessica has talked before about using this list when you move to a new place and need to restock, or if you go on a long trip and need to buy food there. If you have this list, you know what ingredients you will use. I think others have even laminated their list so their people can mark it when something runs out. There are a lot of ways to use it.

    Should I include every ingredient that would go into things I’d like as Mom Food? Or just the recipes I think I’d eat every week?

      To reduce overwhelm, I’d stick to the things you think you’ll make on a regular basis.
